engine just cut out

engine just cut out
hi my mates 93 wrx engine just stoped when he first started it he was warming it up first thing and after about a minute it just cut out now it turns over and wont fire up can anyone give advice please

Does it throw a check engine light(CEL) if so he can check the cars ECU.
