Sti 8 complete engine into sti 4 much work?
Would it be a straight foward drop in? an STi 8 engine into an STi 4, would the 5sp box mate up to the lump ok or would i need the 6 sp from the 8?

Problems problem and more problems
You are definately going to need a new ecu, maybe the wiring loom (not sure though) but as the new age MY01 STi engines onwards (you dont state if its a JDM or Euro Spec engine as the STi 8 doesnt exist) it comes with AVCS variable timing, which the classics did not have.

Physically yes, it drops straight in, mates up with 5 speed gearbox, clutch & flywheel, you will defo need the ECU to drive the AVCS unless you remove it which is more work & more parts. You would also need the engine loom but the wiring from the engine loom to the ECU is part of the whole car loom so it would have to be made up seperately or fit the whole MY03 loom
