Unhappy First knocklink activity...........

Last night I took my 2001 P1 out for a spin, car was driving really well. But at one point at the top of third gear, (8000 rpm and 110mph) just as I changed into 4th and came off the clutch (quite hard) I got all lights on the knocklink flash at me for a split second, then it went again.

The only activity Ive ever had on the knocklink before is one green light flickering away. I use Optimax and 1ml of NF octane booster to every litre of fuel and after checking the SECS monitor there had been no boost spike - all was normal? Car is standard apart from a cat back HKS system, boost peaks up to 1.2 bar and holds between 1 and 1.1 bar and it has had a new MAF in the last 3 months.

Could the lights have been caused by the hard gear change? I know Id gone past peak power at 7000rpm anyway so holding to 8000rpm was pointless really, so I wont do that in future and I think Im going to double the dose of the octane booster now as well (2ml to every litre of fuel)

Any advice or help would be appreciated!

Cheers guys!!!

Stu

If a one off on a gearchange don't worry. You could have brushed the rev limiter as well which will often do it.

i have had a cople of instances of this in my modded wagon. Either lift off det or like said noise from a harsh gear change.
If it was just a flash i should not worry. If it does it all the time i would investigate.

Thanks again guys!

Filled the car up with Optimax and used 2ml of NF formula to every litre of fuel today. Took it for a spin, and couldnt get more than 1 green no matter how hard I drove it!!!

Fingers crossed it was a one off!!!

Cheers!
