Default Turbo bearing question

I was passing a second hand car place recently and saw a RB5 in the forecourt.

To make a long story short..... it wasn't, just a badged-up GT 2 series 2. Anyway i took it for a drive and heard a metallic noise from the turbo. Asking the dealer he said that all wrx's sound like that, so I said "mine doesn't!" So he said it was the roller pin bearings in the turbo.

So that's the question.

Are there roller pin bearings in the turbos of some models?

Personally I thought they were white metal bearings on standard models (hence a cool down period after blasting it) and you only got hitech roller pin bearing in souped-up-to-be-jezus cars.

Am i right?
Cheers..

A roller bearing turbo, sounds more like a washing machine on spin / Jet engine Turbine noise (hard to describe), Sort of a high pitched whistle & they take longer to spin down than a conventional bearing Turbo.

The Metallic noise is normally a knackered squeeling/ seizing bearing.
Don't think the Rb5's had roller bearing Turbos as standard , Unless one has been fitted of course !!!
