Default TD05 Turbos

Just had another caller !!

When you guys buy TD05 turbos from anywhere PLEASE ensure that you get the water pipes and banjo bolts. TD05 pipes and bolts are different to all other Subaru turbos and only TD05 will fit.

We don't have any, but would be millionaires overnight if we did.

Make sure before you buy a TD05 that it is COMPLETE with pipes and banjos.

David,

Are you tired by any chance???? I was asking a simple question from a simple persons point of view (me) I sorry to insult your intelligence by not knowing what the **** you anoraks are on about!!!

I have a TD05 in the garage and was going to see if I had the banjo or whatever they are called bolts, and the water pipes. But thanks for nothing mate.

Next time, I'm not bother trying to educate my tiny mind and take it along to a main dealer and pay £60 per hour, only for them to discover I got bit missing

Thanks (for chuff all) Phill

They are both oil bolts, the one on the left is for the IHI VF series turbo and the one on the right is for the TD04/05 turbos, you can get the banjo bolts from graham good IIRC

Thanks for the pics Andy, I'm still unsure as to whether I need to change the bolt on mine or not, It was probably my call to A.P.I. that started this thread, they didn't have one as you can probably see !

After putting the question to Any.F when I first changed turbos, he replied that if you are changing from a TD to an IHI, you will definately need to change this bolt, however it is not required if the other way round, i.e. IHI to TD05 !

I just don't want to take any chances for the sake of a bolt (if I can get one)

Oh and Roojai, YHPM.

No. I have run my own TD05-20G at up to 1.8bar / 440 bhp on the restricted IHI oil banjo without any issues.
There are a number of different orifice sizes on banjos fitted throughout the years, this applies to both the head and turbo end of the oil feed line.

Fitting the open (head end) banjo to a roller/ball bearing IHI can cause it to spool slightly slower but you would be hard pushed to notice the difference.

Andy

ps I realise this thread started off referring to water pipes, not oil pipes ! and NO I DON'T HAVE ANY SPARE ONES EITHER

Sorry guys - Not angry at all - thats just Knowlesey's sense of humour.

However it is difficult to supply a picture of something you haven't got......

I was originally trying to save phone calls from a number of people who call here regularly for something that is hard to get hold of. The point was that you should make sure you get the water pipes and banjos when you buy the turbo rather than frantically try after it's too late.

They are hard to come by and perhaps l'll try to get API Japan to buy some as something we should keep anyway.

No offence meant from here - just perhaps the humour missed.

Good luck all David APi Engines / APi Impreza

Well you'd need a sense of humour living in Knowlesey mate, wouldn't you?

I honestly haven't got a clue what I'm supposed to be look for, to fit on my TD05, but do have the complete engine as well, so'd be lovely if I knew what the parts looked like. Does anyone have pictures, to help me identify the rocking horse **** parts

Surely you could get a few specials made up, so you can earn your way to the first million.

Phill

PS David, after your reply in this thread, I'd be very sceptical using you company, although I've heard a lot on good things about you. Why did you get so stroppy?

you can buy the water pipes and bolts from subaru but they are over £100.

if a turbo you are buying doesn't have the water pipes make sure the price reflects this.

David, make sure mark supplies them with the water pipes next time

Phill, Not stroppy at all, just a humour thing that seems to have missed the mark. ANYBODY on here who has met me or been here will tell you I'm the calmest guy around. Sorry if I've put you off, it wasn't meant like that at all.

Is that me-David or another David?? I don't buy turbos off Mark; so I guess it must be another.
