squeek from wheel area
hi got a squeek that keeps coming and going, sort of sounds like a really sqeeling brake pad. only really noticable with the window down and is not affected by applying the brake pedal. any ideas what this could be ??
appears to be from the front drivers side but its hard to tell without getting someone to push the car along while i listen. its not the back breaks sticking as ive had them apart and greased them all up nicely. the car is a my98 turbo wagon with 4 pots on the front.
any ideas folks?????

My MY98 used to have a squeak that sounds like what you've described. When it is doing it try pulling the handbrake on slightly, then off again. On mine it stopped the squeak - I assume it was the handbrake shoes scuffing inside their own little drums. I couldn't say which end of the car it sounded like it was coming from.
It went away.
It went away.

yeah i have tryed that and it made no difference
ive jacked the car up and there is no play in the wheel bearing, its all tight.
the sound seems like its coming from the front.
it has 4 pots - are these common on sticking ??

rqv_stu I think I have the same issue.
I have a Turbo 2000. About 2 months ago I noticed a squeeking noise that seems to be linked to the rotation of one of the front wheels but I didn't think much at the time as it was intermittent. It's getting really loud now though. It stops when I take a bend left or right thought. So I am thinking mine could be the wheel bearing.
Did you manage to solve your prob? I'd be interested to know what it was.

I had this problem myself, I first noticed it after some spirited driving. If you pushed the car up and down it would squeek, after a while I started to get the dreaded wheel bearing hum but there was no play in any of the wheels, I had to stick it on my mates 2 poster to suss out which one it was.
