Default Emissions test fail

Can somebody advise what is the most likely cause of a fail (went off the scale apparently!) at idle but a pass at 3000 or 4000rpm. The idle is very irratic recently, most of the time in all fairness. It "hunts" anything from about 300rpm to 1000rpm, up and down all the time! Would this be the MAF or the Lambda Sensor! No codes appear to come out once ECU reset and checked!? Car is a Classic MY99 Turbo!

Cheers
Damo

This happened to my MY99, it was a MAF sensor.

classic MY99 MAF failure, get it changed asap as your engine could fail if your driving it at load with a faulty MAF.
