Default HKS FMIC - anyone fitted one?

I have the opportuninty to get a 2nd hand on for a 97, which would be fitted to my 99STi. I know i'll need an adapter for the DV.

Question I have is around cutting. Is it just the bumper or any metalwork?

Will an APS Inner wing filter fit in with it? Anyone got some pics of the wing on the filter side?

Ta,

I don't know about the FMIC but I have fitted an APS cak, it sits in the wing so you have to take down the plastic inner wheel arch cover above the wheel to fit, only an hour or two's job depending on how handy you are with the tools, take care not to break the plastic clips as you have to re use them !

It shouldn't cause any conflict with fitting a FMIC as that would sit at the front of the car.

Make sure the cak is the correct one for your MY as they do differ.

I have fitted one to my '95 sti 2. What a pain in the *** it is. Most of the back half of the bumper has to be cut away and resonator removed. The metal work along the front that hold the bumper on at the top has to be cut too so the core will fit. My sti only has the hole in the wing that the airbox uses and unfortunately the pipework for the HKS uses it so you have to use an induction kit. Unless you have a second hole then it is hard to get a good cold air feed to the induction.

Smiff, but the IC tube comes through the inner wing too so don't know if the filter will fit. I know the APS FMIC fits with its own filter (as you'd expect)

Stuart, ta.

Anyone else confirm fitting?

Yup, I see what Stuart is saying, looks like it wouldn't work then, sorry !

I was also thinking of changing the IC on my STi V for either a front mount or an STI 7-8 top mount, On the basis of this info, I think the later option is looking more atractive at this moment in time

Need to go and look under my lid bit I may have got it wrong, the APS goes through its own hole (where airbox used to feed in) and shouldn't interefere with the IC pipe.

STi8 TMIC looks like an absolute ******* to fit - new TB Hose, modify brackets, cut clutch fluid reservoir down etc...

Im going for FMIC

Oh i see now MB. The HKS kit for the earlier scoobs goes where the filter is on that pic and into the wing. The RHS pipework in the pic is the same however.

Hey don't knock the HKS. I agree the hybrid is a great price for a quality bit of kit but the HKS is of equal quality with a hefty price tag.....but not if you know where to look

All i can say is i have seen both and i believe the HKS is slightly better (if you payed the same price) in terms of ease of installation (although i know i will try to be shot down about this one!)
