porting, yes you can have it ported but not going to give you a lot.
balancing, the turbo is already balanced, if it wasn't it would fling its self apart.
coating, not sure what with but coating with ceramic is popular in some high performance turbos.
if you are wanting more from the turbo you are better off selling it and getting a TD05 as the vf's don't like being over stressed.
the TD05 is a 350BHP turbo that is a lot stronger than the vf turbos.
if it does go wrong its very cheap to fix as you can have it re-coditioned for very little money.
it also has the potential to be converted with a bigger compressor wheel and front cover to give over 400bhp for not a lot of money, this conversion is known as the TD05/06.
i used one of these turbo's to good effect, with supporting mods my old my95 WRX produced 419bhp and 370 ft/lbs of torque.
not bad from a turbo that cost under a grand!

Hello!
I bought the vf34 about to days ago haven't fitted it yet so i could send it back, i bought this as there should be very little lag and it was a better turbo over the vf22 which is old! umm not sure if i've made the right choice! dam!!
The mod's are!
550cc fuel injectors, Motec Managment, Race fuel pump and Stainless Steel 3" exhaust system!!

don't get me wrong, its not a bad turbo at all, its just if you are looking for more power than 350bhp then its isn't the turbo for you.
with the other mods you have, a front mounted intercooler and a good set of headers you should be looking at 400bhp with the right turbo choice.
it would be a shame to waste all that extra power

do a search for TD05/06 20G, should be loads of info on them.
lag isn't bad at all on the 05/06 for the amount of power it can produce.
if you are running a vf22 at the moment you will find the 05/06 will spool quite a bit sooner (1 bar at around the 3000rpm mark) and in gear pick up will be better.
the vf22 is very slow to react in my opinion.

As Andy F says himself the TD05/06 is really suited to an Sti with a 8000rpm rev limit.
If you have a uk turbo another option may be one of the new TD05 18g's he's just started to sell.
TD05/06 vs VF24
Andy.
