check my oil temps pls.
typical subaru owner , paranoid as ever.
Ive not really looked in detail at my SPA gauge values before this week, but my mate had a big end go and noticed it with a jump in oil temp.
car is MY99, UK, tuned to >300brake, sender above no.3, motul 300v 15w50 (3000miles old)
once above 80degs.C (which takes about 10 minutes in the morning) it climbs reasonably steady to somewhere near 84. it rises at a rate of about 0.1deg.C every 1 second.
giving it onions, rises at about 0.1deg.C every 2 or 3secs. to about 86degs.
into 5th gear and it moves back to about 83degs.
80mph in fourth and it raises again, into 5th and it drops again.
In traffic (standstill) it rises to sometimes 87/88 degs.
The highest Ive had (not on track) is 92degs.
Im not overly concerned about the values (I think), more the rate of change.
It also seems to be always on the move, only after a fair length of 5th gear cruise does it seem to hold stable, usually fluctuating maybe 1deg. either side.
<<<<Water temp is good, 86degs. except in traffic when it can get to 92degs. before the fan kicks in and brings it down to 88degs.
After a few miles at any sort of speed its back to 86.>>>>
does the oil reading sound ok?

Lot cooler than mine. Defi guage with sensor above No.3, Motul oil. 90+ is normal with 110 not unusual. It's always been like that. Trouble is, there's no way of knowing how accurate it is. I'd be concerned if things were suddenly different.

Your setup is identical to mine, oil, MY, sensor location - except mines an STi5 with 320 bhp.
Mine takes about 15 mins to hit operating temp and thats 98 deg c. Hard motorway work and its 105 ish deg c.
Mine's a digital type but on a needle rather than digital readout. Moves around a little sometimes so question the absolute accuracy, but its a good guide.
