Default WRX03 backbox vs PPP - notice a difference?

Evening All,

I'm currently running a Ninja Backbox and aftermarket air filter on my WRX03. I've read on here that in some situations this combination can uplift power by 20bhp or so. I've certainly noticed a difference since the backbox went on.

I considering going PPP but I'm wondering what the point will be if it only makes a small difference. I don't wanna shed out all that money and find I'm not gaining much.

Comments appreciated.

The main reason for anyone going PPP is to preserve the warranty. For what it is it is very expensive, and as you have already found it is quite easy to do similar mods to get reasonable perf. increases. The 1600 seems paltry compared to the cost of an engine rebuild though, should anything go pop. If you have used any non-approved parts on the engine, induction or exhaust they may have reason to refuse a claim, leaving you with the big bill, whether or not it was your bits that caused it The extra 20bhp you are enjoying is more like 40bhp with PPP, and to make that next step you will need to look at removing some cats and a remap. The PPP also utilises a silicone (Samco, badged Prodrive ?) I/C hose, although I doubt this contributes much. Price up all these plus what you have already invested in the BB and filter you have and see if it's worth it. I love my PPP although when the warranty is up I'll be doing all the usual exhaust stuff and TEC3 I would have extended the warranty, but as they've just doubled the cost **** 'em.

fair comments there mate but I'm also concerned about the resale value on my car after however long I decide to keep it. If I carry on with aftermarket mods e.g. TEK3 ECU upgrade etc will my car become undesirable to the majority when/if I come to sell.. bearing in mind I will be the only owner?

cheers

Anyone who knows their $hit will not buy it with the aftermarket stuff on if the warranty is of any concern to them, unless you've kept the OE bits and refit them before sale. Also, any Scooby enthusiasts may want to buy standard cars to do their own thing tuning-wise. Seen so many go up for sale on here with stunning spec, only to see them get stripped back to standard and the parts sold off separate. I think the sensible standpoint is stick with approved stuff during the warranty and if you're gonna sell within that, and mod how the hell you want if you're gonna keep it for a long time.

i understand the warranty issues but I'm thinking after warranty, if I'd taken it to a specialist to be partially decatted and re-chipped I might not be able to revert the car back to its former configuration for re-sale.
I've thought about decatting one pipe at the moment but I hear that you really need to chip to make it run properly.

Thumbs up

Disected a back box and theres nowt to them..a straight pipe which is perforated and lagged with insulation, and i suspect this is only for sound characteristics.i cant see how any back box alone can being any different from any other except the sound. The size is only relevent if its smaller than the incoming pipe which will reduce power any bigger and no gains will be noticed.

sound and looks matter not size...powerman
