Default STI Type UK boost at 3500rpm, not 2,500

Guys

I have an 8,000 mile, standard sti type uk (53 plate) that I have had for a week. The cars I have drove before with higher miles pulled strong from about 2,500 rpm but mine does not really pull strong until 3,500 rpm. I believe the car has not been driven hard ( judging by the condition and tyres ). I have been told the engine could still be tight. Any ideas?

I am running the car on optimax!

No it was not the PPP one though that kit will follow in the summer. Its due for a service in 2 thousand so I will get it checked over. It just seems to be much higher up the rev range when it starts to pull hard on boost. The other car I drove had 40,000 on the clock so that should be well run in and seemed to pull much stronger at the bottom end.

3,500 is correct for this car.

You really need to get the PPP to get some more useable torque low down.

The PPP really does transform the drivability of the UK STI. In standard form, its being strangled by emission laws!

Urban is right, >3500 is correct.
That figure drops to below 3000 after PPP and the car is MUCH nicer to drive at slower speeds.

Yep i have an 02sti and 3500 is right on a standard car and as said the ppp or similar aftermarket will transform it. Although ive had mine modded i still dont get full boost as early as i did on my classic,But then this car has a bigger turbo than the classic had.

Thanks for the reply guys. The higher milage cars might just run a bit better at the bottom end, it felt stronger from 2,500 though this was the first sti I drove. At least I know my car is running pretty much at what it should. I will be looking at the PPP kit later in the year. Do I need the 18inch wheels as well and would an aftermarket backbox like a magnex or scooby sport fit the prodrive system to give it a little bit more noise?

What were the higher mileage cars that you drove. Perhaps had smaller turbo, so responded much better low down in rev range but less power at top.

WRXs will pull OK (or pretty well when modded) from 2500rpm due to smaller turbo. The couple of standard 02 STis I drove I would have said it was nearer 4000 than 3500 before the turbo comes in hard, and then off you go.

All down to Turbo size. IIRC, I had >250lbft on my modded WRX by ~2600rpm due to the early spool of the TD04. You won't beat that with an STi. However, come 4000rpm I'd be losing big style against a modded STi, or car fitted with e.g. TD05.

The higher milage cars are both STI Type UK models. Does the STI run a larger turbo than the WRX?
