Hi,

My mate just fitted a FMIC to his WRX STI Type RA V limited. and in the process he knocked the pipe from the Turbo to the boost control solenoid which in return opens the wastegate. as the pipe was off when he was driving the car it did not go too well. he tried putting his foot down to see if it made any difference, all of a sudden their was a loud Bang and the car just blew smoke out of the exhaust no-end and the turbo started rattling no end.
It seems the turbo has self destructed. the car drives ok off boost but still the smoke from the turbo completly filled a road about 1/4 mile long as he drove up it. (Too low for Recovery, and dir not want to add insult to the injury by towing and damaging his front bumper.)

Any way i have found this turbo on ebay from a SUBARU STI VERSION 8 TURBO IHI VF35

What i need to know is will it fit his Red top? with ease, will it require any mods? if so what and how easy will it be to do?

If you dont want problems then you need to replace like for like, the vf35 is a very different turbo to the one thats already on the car (remap etc required to run).

If the car is a V2 it will have a TD05 turbo as standard which has a 90 degree entry, so although it is possible to fit the VF35, it will require some extra hose work (Samco or such). 2 x 90 degree elbows and a jointing pipe should do it.

The Turbos are very roughly the same size, so it won't drastically affect the running of the car. You wouldn't NEED a remap (ie it would run ok) providing you have a knocklink, boost gauge and AFR gauge fitted at least but one would be PREFERABLE to exploit the most from the turbo.

You wouldn't really be gaining anything by fitting this turbo though and you'd be better, as Tony says, swapping like for like.

Be less hassle fitting it too.

Hi guys,

I have gone through it with him and he wants to go for the VF35 due to the 360 degree bearing.
the chap on ebay is looking for a lot for it do any of you know where i can get one at reasonable doh. 300-350 ish would be ok.

I have tried GradeA but they do not have any.

Dont know if this is any use...

But i bought my VF30 from these guys.

They do a brand new VF34 for $749 Works out at about £385.
Of course, you may get hit for duty, when i bought mine, it was only £60 duty.
And of course, you know you're getting a brand new turbo.

Think it took 4 days from ordering to receiving it.

They may well do a VF35 aswell, worth a try.
