There have been lots of posts about cars suffering from DET and everyone talks about remapping, better fuel, better inter-cooler, etc etc.
No one mentions the factory knock detector sensor. Surely if the knock detector sensor stops functioning then this is a likely cause of DET, as the car will not retard the ignition when it picks knock up.

Any comments???

Just to add, can I hook up my bosch sensor on my knocklink to the ECU sensor wire, in parallel, so that the bosch sensor is read by both the ECU and the knocklink?

Would'nt have thought the values that the ecu reads would have been the same ?
The oem knocklin sensor is fine untill you start modding then i would use the bosch (knocklink) to keep an eye on things

I am just not convinced that my OEM sensor is working, so I thought if I wired the ECU wires to the bosch sensor then I would have the benefit of a bosch sensor and always know it's working due to readout on knocklink.

Maybe I should just get a new OEM sensor, they can't be much.

Wouldn't bother spending money on an original sensor when an aftermarket knocklink gives you a visual indication of a potential problem...all the original does is retard the ignition, doesn't provide you with a reason to investigate why.

But if the standard sensor is knackered and you don't sort it then the ECU may not see the DET and not retard the ignition and all your left with is a buggered engine.

Just change out the sensor if you are at all worried. If the ECU can retard the ignition by the 6 degrees it can then it might save your engine if you do not see the christmas tree effect from your KnockLink.

where is the standard sensor located?

It is on top of the block, on the RHS as you look from the front of the car.
You can see it and just get to it down through the inlet manifold
