No thrust and wooshing noise ! Help!
Hi all..
Have the following:
WRX MY04 PPP
I have noticed the following problem that got worse tonight....
When I accelerate in any gear (but most noticeable in 2-4), I hear a whooshing noise. Its as loud as the heating on full blast - indeed I thought it was the heating fan!
Its as if the heating fan goes on full blast as you put your foot down. In actual fact it appears to do this when you would expect the turbo to spool up.
I wound the window down and the noise (I think) is coming from the engine bay.
The second problem is almost no power and the revs can not go beyond about 4000 before struggling to go any higher (the also judders a bit).
If you drive is normally and VERY gently you would almost not know there was a problem .....
OMG what’s the problem people ?
I'm not really into car engines etc but I would guess that a turbo pipe has come loose or something ? Any ideas please ?
Oh one last thing, the back pipe of the exhaust seems really sooty, but I'm not sure that is related.
cheers
Mark
MB - thanks ..
Update...
Looked under the bonnet. Yep, it appears to be the 'blue prodrive' pipe that enters the turbo from the side. Its not totally off but the clip is at an angle and I can see a gap for sure...
I phoned Surbaru assist tonight and they are sending a technician to have a look in the morning. If they can not fix it then they will get it to a dealer (only 2 miles down the road actually).
Question: It looks an easy job ... except that the intercooler is in the way. How easy is that to remove - something the technican could do ....??
cheers
