Smelly wet Scoob!
Hope someone can help me sort this one out:-
Driving in the now cold weather, if I put the heater on anywhere between warm and full heat, the fan can be on 1 - 4. There is a smoke machine smell and effet from my vents. So bad that the inside of the car looks like its filling up with fog! Also, there were what looked like soap suds coming out of the passenger footwell vent!!. The inside of my windscreen and back window are constantly wet, I have used a chamois leather to dry these several times but within a minute or two they are wet again and visibility is awful! The whole inside of the car is constantly damp / misted up and I can't clear it with the de-mister. The fan by the way is working.
Can anyone please put me out of my damp misery?

Checked the water level. Definately losing. Can anyone tell me roughly how much it should cost me to get the heater matrix replaced? Not sure I'm really up for doing it myself.

my car had a heater matrix done before i got it, when i spoke to the dealer that did it they had the car for a fortnight and it cost nearly 800 quid. Which is way over the top. Any reasonable garage would bill 5 hours labour and to get the matrix reconditioned is about 30-60 quid usually.
Take it to a Subaru specialist (not main agent) with history of doing them easily.

I had the same windows steaming up etc, then it totally went and I had a puddle on the passenger footwell.
I managed to pick one up for £45 second hand, Was quoted £200 from Local dealer for the part new or £600 for them to repair it.
I did take it to a couple of places to see if they could repair the old one but no such luck.
It's not too bad a job with the right tools and a spare I felt I could have done it in a day.

Booked into a local Subaru specialist on Friday. The guy I spoke on the phone said he would be suprised if the matrix had gone, probably got water in the heater air box. Will be interesting to see what he says once he's looked at it.

Took it to specialist on Friday, they had it till Saturday aft. The thermostat had seized causing a pressure build up and this had popped the matrix. They replaced the thermostat and repaired the matrix. Now running fine again!
Total cost was £153.
