Have a look in the projects forum. Simon Lines from prodrive is putting engine and drivetrain from a new JDM STi into a classic shell. A detailed thread which you should find informative.

I have also fitted a new age STI 7 engine into a classic (wagon) It bolts straight in mechanically, as does the gearbox.

Consider the following.

Engine:

You will need....if you are using the AVCS

ECU, Engine Loom, Car loom, full dashboard etc Makes the wiring easier

If you are not using the AVCS, then use your existing ECU, loom and mate it to the engine loom on the newage car, additionally the the oil feed holes to the AVCS solenoids will need plugging, and you would be better off using your existing cams / pulleys.

Classic power steering pump bolts up with a little mod to the support bracket but there is insufficient room to get an induction pipe under the new age manifold / past the classic powersteering pump, it would be better to opt for the new age pump and induction manifold.

Classic Alternator bolts on, a few adjustments to bracket required.

There is also another problem, the oil feed line to the turbo is common to the oil line feeding the AVCS solenoids, this hard pipe needs replacing with a seperate goodridge hose that just feeds the turbo if your not using the AVCS. Leave as is if you are using AVCS.

Gearbox, depending on what model classic car you have, speedo is either cable or electronic, new 6 speed uses electronic mechanism. If yours is electronic it plugs straight in, if its cable then just take the mechanical speedo drive from your old box and fit it to the 6 speed and hey presto.
