Exclamation Engine Check Light

Can anybody shed some light on why my engine check light keeps coming on. Its come on twice now, each time the fault has been read as a slight misfire on cylinder 4, ive been told that the car is fine to drive but its a bit worrying. Its a my 01 wrx (bugeye)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

James

James,

Slight misfire. Start with the basics first. Change your plugs. If the misfire is still there might be an idea to replace your coil packs.

James, I'm in the same situation - intermittent misfire on cylinder 3.

I have changed the plugs but this hasn't fixed it.

What I am planning on doing next is swapping the coil pack for cyl3 with the coil pack for Cyl1 to see if this moves the misfire to cylinder1 (might save me spending out money for a coil pack that I don't need)

Is there any pattern to when you get your misfire? Mine will only occur when accelerating fast(ish) in 4th gear from low revs. If I bring the RPM up to 3500 slowly and then accelerate hard I never get the CEL flash.

Let me know what cures yours

Mark.
