Average cost for turbo recondition?
While I'm planning to change my TD04 to something else it occurs to me that if I buy a turbo say from fleebay and it turns out to be not as "Mint" as described whats the average cost of having it reconditioned?
Say for a VF28?
Also is a VF28 roller bearing?
Thanks

ah,
So perhaps I should have started the thread "Is buying 2nd hand turbos a lottery"?
I guess when making a non-face to face purchase I have to rely on the individual to be honest? When you say damaged bearing is this shown up by play in the shaft?
Thanks

Seems you've been thinking along the same lines as me - I am also considering upgrading my turbo to get around the 300 mark - again with as little difference in spool speed over the TD04....

Jim B - have a look here http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=376379
The first couple of pages are really helpful for those looking for modest power increases with low lag. From what I gather the route to go is a VF28, STi I/C and I think an uprated fuel pump and reg plus a remap. This apparently gives better performance without putting loads of strain on stock clutch/'box. In the thread a VF35 is recommended but these seem hard to find and quite expensive however as most seem to be new the chances of buying a duff one are reduced.
