K&N panel and a 99/00 MAF????
Will a green/K&N panel filter damage my MAF? They are slightly oiled.
I'm staying away from an induction kit from fear of breaking the MAF.
I've been running an ITG which is worse than the two panels above, and it has been ok, I guess it goes down to luck with these year MAf's?
Another avenue is the STi paper filter, which I 've not heard all good comments about.
Hmmm what do I do, I don't really want to go down the route of the std oem item, I'm planning a remap on my P1 nxt year.
Confused

The genuine STI filters that Simon Lau sells www.stiracing.co.uk are very good and aren't oiled (so do need to be replaced every so often). with them not being oiled, they are MAF friendly and also are supposed to perform better than other replacement filters. I have one in a my99 UK turbo and I'm happy with it.
There was a recent group buy on them, i would have though that if you have a word with Simon, you could get another one going

All good filters.
Have had a K&N on my MY00 for over 20,000 miles and a Green since the last service (approx 6k).
In the 1st issue of Scooby magazine the std panel, STI, panel and the Green were tested back to back - the Green came out on top.

I had a MAF sensor start failing when using a K&N panel filter.
although some have had them in use for 100's of miles without issue.
I have a green cotton filter (which I tried next ~ without any problems at all) and cleaning kit for sale also
presently I use an apexi (dry) cotton cone filter and Im happy with it
(99uk car btw)

So you measured it back to back? Or felt it?

Well done that man
The only mods that I felt a difference with were: DP, remap and turbo. Not tried FMIC or headers so can't comment. All other conceivable mods had no real affect individually but may have cumulatively, but as they go on in stages it's hard to tell.
From my experience anyone who says any different is very sensitive or justifying thier purchase.

PS I've excluded noz, cams and 2.5's of course and anything else off the beaten path.

Thanks for the answers, I know the air filter is not really a mod, but I need a new air filter, and don't want to fit oem.
The Green cotton filters and the K&N are exactly the same I thought, so either of them I should be safe with, even though a few of you have had probs the K&N and Mafs failing. I think I'm two steps forwards, three steps back. I think I'll go for an induction kit if/when I go for a remap. So Sti paper filter at approx £60-70 or the Green/K&N at approx £40

Green cotton or K&N will be fine.
Induction kits are generally regraded as worth avoiding until they become a restriction, at around 350bhp.
Watch where you get the STi one if you go for it, some are fake. ScoobyMania will sort you out. The Green did very well in a recent indipendant test.

DBM - I'm OK. Needed a rest from here...! But back now.
Looking back over old posts (which I don't want to resurrect), I can't believe the rough ordeal Greasemonkey got. There are alot of spiteful unappreciative arseholes on here, some of who were obvious before the posts, some after...
