Removal of gearstick - MY95 :(

Removal of gearstick - MY95 :(
HOw do I get the gearstick out on my MY95? Its the ball bit at the end I can't release - brute force or try to remove the pin in situ?
Any hints or tools required?

Make sure you remove the circlip or you aint getting it out 
remove 12mm bolt, undo circlip an dpull gearstick into 4th gear position (or a bit further back and teh gearstick will pop out)
