It could be a few things, torque would be my first guess, is the car standard??
The second would be traction, how worn are the tyres and are they a good brand or cheap brand (some tyres do have a traction rating on them).

right, the car is a 97 wrx import, running 14 psi and has 300 bhp and 252 lb of torque, i have brand new toyo proxes (215/35/18) and i have had a full geometry set up at my main dealer, what else could it be? thats not a lot of torque really is it???

No thats not really alot of torque....
Is it just the front wheels or all the wheels?
And is this wet or dry or both? (never ran toyo's so dont know if they have a "greasy" layer you have to get though first?)
The only other thing id be thinking of is the diff, if just the fronts were spinning.
