Red face What causes Limp Home Mode?

I have a late 94 RA (Its 95 Spec), anyway yesterday
while going for a run Id been giving it some stick. While poodling
I brought the boost into about 0.6 bar and there was a pop and
and bang/misfire and the car decelerated momintarily before
I got my foot off the gas fast - No CEL.

I then tried accelerating in it but it refused to go over 0.5 bar of
boost and I remember reading about 'Limp home mode' and can
only assume my car had entered this mode. I stopped, did some
shopping, returned to the car and it was back to just over 1.1 Bar.

Its got a full decat, Induction Kit and running a scoobyECU chip.
Now about 30mins earlier I performed an ECU reset and switched
MAP's over to the ScoobyECU one (I had been using the default
one due to a faulty 2 way switch I bought and didnt realise)- dont
know if this is related.

So after all that my question is.. what causes limp home mode
Could I have overboosted and caused it etc?

To be honest I tought it could be overboost as it boost's too high
on the standard map.. 1 Bar - Im thinking of getting a dawes to
fix it at just under 1.1 bar.. however at 0.6 bar Hmmm?

Possibly the car sensed overboost, fuel cut followed and the ecu dropped to Limp Home.

When I suffered regular fuel cut never had the Limp home mode though (Sti v3).
I think this can happen if det sets in. Are you using Optimax at minimum?

Maybe someone closer to your prob will post.

Always used optimax though I have stopped adding booster - I guess it must have been det as nobody else seems to have any ideas..

I better either get a Dawes or change chip back then.

Cheers
