Cool piston slap on cars after 96 ?

is their such a thing as the above i went to a dealer to look at a 99 turbo and the salesman said about they can develop piston slap ? the the older ones didnt have the fault ?
is this true or is it false ?

I thought it was MY97-8 cars that suffered this?

I was also told that it was pre 99 scoobs
Mine 98 had a new short motor under warranty 17000mls in 03\2000 then they fitted the modified block etc:

Look on SIDC, it says its the MY 98 that suffer from this.
