afaik jap ecus of the same year are interchangable ie an sti ecu will work in a wrx.The benefits if any will be an improvement in torque.

I was thinking of something similar. I have a jdm 96 wrx wagon engine that I'll be swaping to my usdm 95 Impreza L coupe. I was thinking of swaping an ecu or swaping to a 16G or both. Would I be fine going to a 16G and no ecu? The car will be my daily driver and some light track duty and some autoX.

I believe this can be done, again it would need to be the same year car but there is an issue with swapping ecu wires around iirc i think Bob Rawle may well be the man to ask
