On my race engine used a crappy mineral oil 10/40 for first 500 (3000 rpm max), changed for same oil 10/40 another 500(4500 rpm max) miles, changed & another 500 miles & onto fully syn.(6100 max)
That was over 15 months ago & its still going strong.......

I always understood from manufacturers that you needed to cover between 6000 and 10000 miles before switching to sully synthetic oil.
Edited to say I suppose this is for road cars!

Shell Helix Mineral (yellow container) 10-40 for 1000 miles, shell helix plus semi synth (blue) 10-40 for 3000 then fully synth, since its track you need to get onto the synth asap so you could go onto it after 2000 miles once final mapping at 1800 miles has been done. If you follow that regime then need to do interim mapping at 1000 miles first, change to semi then change again after final mapping.
