Slipping out of 5th gear
Hi there,
I have an MY99 Turbo 5dr with a quickshift, and occasionally it slips out of 5th gear into neutral. What could this be?
Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers.

My old MY00 did this. Apparently it's a bolt within the gearbox that works itself loose and needs to be replaced. Alas, this means the gearbox has to be taken apart, the bolt refitted and then put back togther. Is reverse hard to get also, as this is also a symptom?

sounds like the nut on 5th gear has come loose as neil says it can be in situ as it's only the back section that needs to come off and you will need a nut a washer and either 1 or 2 gearbox gaskets.

yep done loads of the things the only thing is i got a special tool to stop the bottom shaft from spinning as you do the nut up, it might be a bit difficult with out it.

Hi there,
I am now trying to sell this car, and so any advice would be gratefully received! Please could anyone advise me how much this would cost to get done and whether Subaru would do it for nothing if it was a warranty job?
Many thanks.

I recently did this job to the gearbox from my car.... although i had the box out! having done it once, i would say that it's not that difficult, i would say that it would almost be easier in the car! took me about 3 hrs fiddling, and bear in mind that i hadn't a clue what i was gonna find inside the box til i started!!

Mine didn't have the smae problem, but i did the same job to it, the slipping out of fifth is caused bt the fifth gear retention nut being loose, you'll find a picture much more helpful, see the link here http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...light=5th+gear that should make it a little clearer for you!

Thanks for all the information. Does anyone know a specialist in the Hamshire area who can do this and no too expensively, as I am trying to sell the car at the moment. The problem has got worse and now it is very difficult to get in any gear - could this still be the same problem?
Thanks.
