Default Got a leak - hoping for reassurance...

Noticed some drops on the driveway after parking a few days ago, but couldn't spot anything under the car so assumed it was either the wife or a visitor.

noticed the same again today, and spotted a drip just behind the left front wheel, about 1/3 in towards the centre. Occasional drips about once every 5-10 seconds.

I'm hoping that its something like the air conditioning overflow or something not to worry about. Can anyone help, based on the location?

Car is a WRX03.

99.99% certain it is from the drain hose on the base of the heater box behind the dash, above the pasenger footwell. The hose drains condensation from the a/c matrix to the great outdoors - absolutely nothing to worry about. For piece of mind, turn the a/c off next time you're out for a run - the "leaking" should stop.

Get it on your fingers and have a look and sniff.

Clear Sweetish smell - antifreeze/coolant
Redish, sweetish smell - power steering or autobox (if it's an auto)
Brownish, slight burnt smell - engine oil
Brownish, bit of a nasty whiff - gearbox/diff oil
Brownish, no obvious smell - brake/clutch fluid

If it's clear, no smell and evaporates leaving no residue, it's the condensate from the air conditioning, perfectly normal.

Couldnt help laughing at this..........it reminds me of my days working as a greasemonkey in a garage. A woman brought her car in claiming it had a leak around the back end. We put it up on the ramps expecting it to be a brake fluid problem, or possibly petrol. The "fluid" was all over her off side rear wheel. All systems checked out fine so we did the "wipe your finger and sniff test" - it was dog p1ss!!!!!!!

We reassured the woman there was no problem and it was indeed dog p1ss but she would accpet this - so we showed her underneath while it was on the ramps - she still insisted it was a leak from the car - in the end she wiped her finger through the fluid and stuck it in her mouth to taste it !!!!!!!

She then ran quickly to the toilet yelling "uuurrrrgggghhh...it IS dog p1ss". All the mechanics were rolling around in tears. We then wondered how often she tasted dog p1ss!!!

Those were the days.............
