Hi please can someone help me, i have just changed my exhaust system for a free flowing one and am hitting 20psi, what can i do to lower or controll this as i get det in 5th?

hi mate its a 1997 wrx import

manual boost controller may help, but on my 5 Type R, I had to port the wastegate (although was fine with decat/bb, it was when I put the induction kit on it started to boost creep!)
What gears does the problem happen in? If only on high load (i.e. 5th when booting it) i shoud imagine that boost creep is the issue (mine used to get to around 1.6-7 bar(23psi))

1st and 2nd hit max of 17 psi, 3rd 19 psi, 4th and 5th 20 psi so yes its mainly under load in high gears and i only get the det in 5th

Hi Mate,

I would stay on light throttle when in the higher gears untill the problem is sorted. Some of your options that might work include Fitting a Boost restrictor of a bigger diameter, This is located in the boost pipework from the compressor cover before the T piece which goes to actuator and boost solenoid. De adjusting the actuator pre-load if it is of the adjustable type, fitment of a manual or electronic boost controller. Do you hit the overboost fuel cut? Is the ECU modified at all? Im sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong but if it's holding 23psi you should have found the fuel cut by now.

I will come and have a look at the exhaust you have for sale soon and could possibly give some advice.
