Red face Starting problems

please can anyone help??

Not sure what the problem is but the car (MY95 sti) sometimes starts and runs ok, and other times just cranks over but doesnt start. Has anyone got any ideas what it could be or how to identify the problem?

Thanks for any help

best bet is to find someone local to you with the same year car and ask if you can try thier MAF on yours it's a 5min job to swap em over, check the regional forums for local meets. Make sure it is the MAF before you pay out for one, I bought a new maf and as in the PM it was my imobliser playing up, unfortuatly I sold my spare maf about 2 weeks ago

New mafs are well expensive but you can get them 2nd hand from the forsale section or of the breakers who can supply them 2nd hand.
This list is old but should help you out look to pay anywhere between £90- £130 for a 2nd hand one. ( Supply and demand dicate price )

I have the same problem. I was told it could be the ignition coils? MAF is ment to be quite robust on this MY. Try unplug the MAF when the car is at idle it should stall straight away, if not then it could be the MAF.
