Problem with air-con on MY98
The aircon on my Scoob isn't working, I've no idea for how long because I don't use it. However I'd rather it was working if it's fitted to the car so want to get it fixed.
I had my local garage regass it but the compressor still doesn't kick in. The problem is due to the receiver/driver unit (the metal cylinder with two pipes going into it). This has what I think is a thermal fuse type thing which has gone open circuit meaning that the electrical connector going into it always sees an open circuit. If you remove the connector and bridge the two terminals the compressor will start up and run no problem (assuming of course the aircon is switched on).
So what I need to know is why did this thing blow? I originally thought it was due to lack of pressure but after a regass it stays open so it appears there's some kind of permanent fuse maybe due to the system overheating - again possibly lack of gas? Can I simply replace this fuse type thing (looks like it can be removed from the receiver/dryer unit after the pipes are removed) or is it going to be a new receiver/dryer unit?
Any advice appreciated!
Cheers
Paul.

Thr receiver drier is only a moisture filter!!!..it sounds like you either have a major leak (the compressor will not work if there is not enough or too much pressure) or a faulty pressure switch.
If you by pass the switch and the compressor works/kicks in then it could be the switch although i would get it into a proper air-con specialist for diagnosis......

OK cheers mate will take it back to the garage and get it regassed while bypassing the switch to see if it runs OK and cools etc. If it doesn't then I'll probably just live without it, dont really fancy spending much on a "feature" i see absolutely no need for in the UK (especially with 4 electric windows and an electric sunroof ).
