my My steering pump went in my 01wrx after performing doughnuts on some grass and then a trip to le mans in the heat killed it off. The steering in it just died, returned to manual basically. Sounds more like tracking or something to me, wheel alignment maybe?

When my pump went No power assist at idle but there was when moving at higher revs. It does sound like alignment.

If you are describing a vibration through the steering which is present when turning the wheel even when stationary, then it could be a steering rack problem.

Check/change pas fluid and keep fingers crossed.
