Question knock sensor advice please

I have been getting cel codes 22 which relates to the knock sensor.

i have obtained a sensor, but it appears to be a later model

I have a my96 mine has a single wire terminating in a small plug

the new sensor is a plug in type, which has two wires that run to one wire on a large plug.

i am guessing that subaru in there wisdom changed it to make obtaining spares easier, and cheaper for them!!!

if i pop the single terminal end out of the new connector and replace it with my current old connector, will it work??

if so is it just a straight unbolt and replace?? or do i need thread sealant etc

regs

Affix the new connector to the block in the manner identical to the old one. DO NOT use gaskets, sealer or anything between the sensor, bolt and block as it will prevent the sensor working.

Connect the existing wire to one of the terminals, and I would suggest the other wire you earth to the engine block (as that is what the existing sensor does) however you could (if you so desired) improve the sensitivity of the sensor by running the earth lead back to the ECU earth.
