Question Subaru Dealer Cambelt change.....

Do they replace the tensioners as well?

Or at least are they "supposed" to replace them, or is it a "if needed" Jobbie?

No one know?

OK whats the recommendation of a 90K/72 month service on a MY97 UK classic?

Just the belt?
Belt and tensioners idlers etc?
Or inspect the current ones and replace according to condition?

A 90k would be: aircon, air filter, alternator & cambelt, cambelt tensioner(if needed replacing), fuel filter, plugs, oil filter, engine, diff, gearbox & brake oils/fluids.

You'd want to inspect & make recommendations.

agreed, just had mine done a fortnight ago.
its the priciest one going because I believe it to be a combination of both 45k and 30k services.
if you must go to a main dealer then expect to get little change back from £750.

if you go to a specialist such as Xtreme above, TSL or subaru4you etc then expect a whole heap of cash back and (IMHO) a much better service.

TSL told me a couple of weeks ago that they wanted about £800 for a 90k service.

Just having mine done as we speak, no, the tensioner is not replaced as std, its 145 quid if you need a new one - which I do :-(

Exclamation

If you are in any doubt at all about cam belt tensioner then replace it, ok it is quite expensive but its a whole lot cheaper than a new engine should it fail. Good luck...

oops perhaps I should rephrased what I said (still quite not got the anwser)
I know what's due to be done for the service (it says it in the book! )

what I meant...DO the cambelt tensioners/idlers need replacing?? or JUST the cambelt.

All I want to know is what the standard procedure that subaru dealers do.

DO they do JUST cambelt? or cambelt AND tensioners? or do they inspect the tensioners and replace if they are deteriorating?

I phoned up the dealers the other day to ask...just got gave the run-around (seeing they wern't getting any business probably )

The question bears due to that the car has only done 10000miles since the last cambelt service and I'm unsure if the dealer replaced the tensioners/idler on the last cambelt service.

Which is why I need to know if the dealers do it on a "routine" basis or on a "as needed" basis.

From warrenm2 says I presume it's done on an as needed basis (like most vehicles). Which is what I intend to do, but obviously it would be quicker and easier if I knew in advance if I need to order an new set of idlers and tensioners as well as just the cambelt.
