Question Loose feeling through steering wheel

This is quite a hard problem to describe, but would appreciate anyones idea's on what it could be.

As title suggests i am getting a slack feeling through the steering wheel. This is really only felt when going over bumps or speed ramps. It is more noticeable when on near/full lock and going over even small bumps. I have had a garage look at it and they say everything is fine. The suspension strut bearing was checked (o.k), wheel bearings for play (o.k), the guy that checked it was doing my alignment so checked over a few other things which he said were o.k. Could this possibly be power steering related??. Was thinking myself just to change out all the bushings but was hoping for any ideas on what it could be from you guys, before spending more money.
I can't help but loose confidence in the car when it does this, its not a large amount of play through the wheel but does knock your confidence that wee bit. Hard problem to describe even to the garage but i know something just ain't quite right.

Look forward to any ideas you guys might have

cheers

I had a similar problem after having tyres fitted, steering felt really light and twitchy. Turns out the muppet who fitted them had inflated them to over 60psi.

You checked your pressures?

Regularly check tyre pressures. Its more of a mechanical slackness/play through the steering wheel.

I had something similar a couple of years ago - got to the stage of hating the car...

Turned out to be an inner CV and a lower ball joint - even though I couldn't feel any play in the balljoint, it failed its MOT and was fine after replacement...

Hope this helps,

Mark

Err - not quite - Get someone to check the ball joints and get it on a ramp -- waggle the driveshafts in the CVs to make sure they're OK -

I couldn't find the play in the ball joints, but obviously someone at the MOT garage could - probably used the 'separate with a bar' technique....
