Default WRX PPP beyond 6000 revs

Yo all...

A quick query here. Would I be right in saying that driving a WRX PPP (my04) beyond about 6000 rpm is a waste of time.

If you look at the stats :

http://www.prodrive.com/uploads/03MY%20WRX%20PPP.pdf

It shows that most of the grunt is spent by a little over 6000.

The reason I ask as that I have been used to driving VVC type engines where you need to rev the bollocks of it to extract the power.

thanks

MArk

I've been thinking the same thing. Just sold the CTR and getting used to not having extra oomph at the end of the rev range

It entirely depends on what you are doing!

Scenario 1 - Drag Race - Leave line change to 2nd at 7000rpm (I can't seem to chage before then!), change at 6500 to 3rd, repeat for 4th etc

Scenario 2 - Short straight between two corners on a track - exit corner accelerating in 3rd gear, reach 6500rpm 30 metres (or pick a random distance) before braking marker - change up or not? Your choice, but probably slower to change up, then change down twice before the second corner, while braking and unsettling the car.

Second issue - what is the RPM drop between gear changes? WRX has a five speed (read non-close ratio) gearbox with approx 2000rpm drop between gears (in my MY02 WRX anyway), so changing at 6000rpm drops you to 4000, and from 265PS to 200PS - changing at 6500rpm 260PS ish to 4500rpm 225PS ish.

As far as I am aware - the cylinder heads of the non-STi are the limiting factor for RPM range.
