Unhappy Electrics: Fuel Pump

Should prob be in electrical but will try here first.

Right, plot thickens.(a bit like me)

Got the fuel pump out, and have tested the two terminals on the pump itself... hey presto there is current.

So I have power going to the pump, checked the connector on the top of pump assembly on the car loom side of the connector.

As far as i can see it can only mean there is a problem between the pump and the largw white connector. One thing I have noticed which is quite worrying is that the earth cable on the pump looks as though it has been exposed to quite a bit of heat as the insulating has melted and the wire itself is now exposed and looking rather corroded. Is this an iindication of a bad earthing on the car?
