Question Scooby battery voltage

Hi all
Been having some mental electrical problems with my 1993 wrx classic. Was wondering what voltage battery a scoob needs? Mines a 12v one.
Should it be about 14v? Does the alternator bridge the 2v gap or does the car only need 12v?

Thanks all

Johnny

Thumbs up

I replaced the battery in my MY97WRX recently witha Varta 12v 60Ah, D27w was the part number, from memory it runs at around 13.6v while the car is running. I'm, in Swindon if you need to take a look.

Lightbulb Volts & Amps

All batteries have 6 cells of approximately 2 volts, hence a 12volt battery. A discharged battery will show approx 11 volts, whilst a fully charged one will show around 12.6-12.8 volts without the engine running. When a car is running, a voltage of around 13.6-14.4 volts is required to recharge the battery, any less will not fully recharge the battery, and much more will fry the acid in the battery by over charging, this is controlled by a voltage regulator on the alternator. The size of the battery usually gives an indication of the amperage of the battery (small- low, big -large), which is most needed in cold conditions to turn over the engine ( the cold cranking ability). Hope this sheds a little light.

Thats the same as the one i have now, a varta 12v 60Ah 240A. I have a new alternator arriving tomorrow and am charging the battery in the kitchen over night. I wasnt getting voltage from the alternator (max 7v while running) so it drained the battery. I hope this will sort it all out. Will know tomorrow!!

Thanks for all your help
