Question WR1 is this normal?

Having never owned a new car before can someone in the know tell me if this is normal?
Picked up the WR1, drove merely 6 miles to fill up with optimax. As I'm doing so, smoke is billowing from the bonnet scoop and a strong smell of burning rubber. Lifted the bonnet pretty smartish but all seems OK apart from the smell. I take the car straight back to the dealers, they give it the once over and tell me they all do this due to the waxy residue (green) coating the new engine.
After 300 miles the smell no longer intrudes into the cabin but is extremely strong outside the car .

Is the dealer correct? or Houston do we have a problem?
Prodrive or IM care to reassure me?

Blobster.
PS. The car is otherwise great (in spite of the 4000rpm running in limit)

Some dealers will steam clean this stuff off the engine, but it's not doing any harm burning it off. In any case, smoke and smells are certainly far from uncommon on a new car.

...and the cracked driving light! . Still, look on the bright side, you've already had your dose of bad luck with this car, so law of averages says it'll be plain sailing from here on in.

Id check your rubber seal on the intercooler scoop, ive been told that this can sometimes touch the intercooler if not correctly fitted (not had this problem myself though).

Even if it did touch, it wouldn't smell overly, as the intercooler doesn't get that hot. The only downside in this scenario would be damage to the intercooler fins caused by the boot.
