Default Knocking Noise

This is probably hard to diagnose without seeing it first hand. However I just wondered if any other owners had had the same syptoms and it was somthing common.
Basicaly in any gear if I lift off at 4500-6000+rpm I am getting a knocking noise which sounds as if it is coming from the drivers side sill roughly where the back door is. If I reach back I can feel the knocking through the rear wheel arch bit at the end of the seat. It does not happen under any braking. Only when I lift off and let it overrun.
I dont think it is somthing simple like the exhaust knocking. And I have had a quick look at all the bushes on the rear suspension in that area: they all look to be fine.
It is an MY99 STI.
If anyone has any ideas fire away...
Thanks in advance
Ross
