Default What is a remap?

Hi,

What exactly is a remap, and whats all this Tek3 stuff?

I have a WRX import which is now on optimax, i was wondering how long it takes to get used to it and free up some horses? I've vaguely read about the ECU reset thing, whats the pro's and cons of that?

Does a remap basically just re-map to the current fuel, or is it a bit like chipping a car and gives you more power?

Sorry for the naivety of the post!

Cheers,
Dan

It is exactly like chipping but instead of making engines electronic control unit do what you want by adding an extra microchip to the circuitry, you simply reprogram the unit to do what you want with computer software jiggery pokery.

If your import WRX is a classic model it should almost certainly be running Optimax AND an octane booster to compensate for lower RON petrol in the U.K.

I know that octane booster is recommended, but also not completely necessary - I've read the engine merely retards the ignition in order to deal with the lower spec fuel. There seems to be a lot of scaremongering going around about these things. ( I can perhaps understand it for an uprated STI, but not for a "standard" wrx.. )

So what sort of power gain can be expected from a remap? Presumably also a remap will completely remove the need for any octane booster?

Cheers,
Dan
