Question O2 Sensor Location

Is the location of the O2 sensor the same place on every car, the reason is that I cannot find the sensor on the downpipe on my MY96 STI RA, without taking off the cover at the top of the manifold.

The only sensor I can find is at the base and on the left side of the down pipe looking down from the top of the engine with a braided cable and is smaller than the 'L300 sensor', which I purchased from Halfords today. Any Clues??

Should you see the sensor without removing anything.

Cheers for any help.

Is that before or after the turbo, or do you mean the up-pipe.

Before the turbo
You have to remove the heatshield to remove it

found the sensor, cheers for that.

Now to get the bloody thing out, I can't remove the heat shield without breaking off the bolts, and the sensor seems to be the original and rusted around the seal.

Anybody used mo-grips without damaging the casing as I haven't got a 21mm spanner.

What I should have said was " Mole grips" to remove it, as I can't get a spanner or socket on the sensor or remove the Heat sheild.

Is the body of the sensor strong enough to do that without falling apart and causing me more headaches.

I think you'll destroy the body of the sensor with mole grips. Fine for getting a duff one out, but I wouldn't recommend it on a new one.
