Default Engine fire rebuild on 2002 Bug eyed WRX

A mate of mine has bought last week a 52 plate WRX saloon, The car has had an engine fire and this has killed the engine, the dash has had to be pulled out as warped and melted and the front end needs to be prepped and sprayed. The car does have prodrive wheels and a few pro drive extras (spoiler) and an HKS titanium exhaust.

Now heres the question, my mate seems to be under the very ambitious thinking of he will simply rebuild the car and get it back to as new condition, bearing in mind the car needs a new engine, dash, (bodywork is the easy bit) and complete new wiring including climate control. Am i right in the thinking that he has no real chance of acheiving this as new rebuild and should simply use this oppurtunity to source an old style engine and strip the car out as track day special, EG no dash (just a stack unit) no carpets etc. I am a new member and have joined to get a bit of insiht from the experts on here.

If this is to be done, do any of you know someone who would have wiring diagrams for a 2002 WRX, ? or would subaru give these details out on request? Help and answer to the above would be appreciated.

No doubt it could be done, but at what cost, breakers should be able to supply practically all the bits he'd need, but the hard bit ti get it as new would be the body work, as the fire would have stripped ALL the factory primer that hidden in the box section etc, dunno what effect it would have had on the galvanizing too!!
It's up to him to work out the numbers, and the decide which way to go!

Ron.

Why's the engine knackered, have bits melted??

yeah, the bonnett was an aluminium one, not sure if this wa standard or not, but it had melted all over the block and had to be chissled off, it's not entirely ruined but will need a full rebuild and tonnes of wirebrushing before can be used, this has been taken out now.
