Default Urgent - Lambda sensor - help please

Just had a new one fitted yesterday, after code 32 kept coming up and car was flat and low on power up to 5,000 rpm. However, new sensor fitted, drove home from the garage last night - all OK, went to work today and the Check Engine light was back again, just as the car had warmed up, diagnosed ECU at work and, you guessed it - code 32 again - AAAAARRRGGGHH.

Can anyone help please?????

What MY are we talking about? Was the ECU reset after the new sensor was fitted? Maybe it's just showing the old historical code.

Stefan, it's a '93 WRX unmodified. The ECU was reset by the garage and wasn't showing any faults. After the CEL came on this morning, code 32 is displayed again, so it's a new incident of the same fault.

Could anything other than a faulty sensor create the same fault code? i.e. if something like a coilpack breaking down caused an intermittant missfire, would this register a fault with the oxygen sensor?

I maybe wrong, but I'd think the ECU would interpret the voltages it's receiving from the O2 sensor and determine of it's working or not.

When my ECU showed a 32 error code, the voltage on the O2 sensor (that was being read by the ECU) was a static 0.03v.

I'm not sure if anything else would cause that fault other than something directly related to the sensor itself i.e. carbon build-up on the sensor, sensor wiring, etc..

I assume the '93 WRX only has one Lambda sensor. I was sure I've seen it mentioned that certain Impreza's may be fitted with 2 - manifold + exhaust

Thanks again Stefan,

It does have two sensors, one in the manifold, which they have replaced, the other in the downpipe before the cat. Maybe it's that one which is faulty?

I'll get the garage to check the other out tomorrow.

the early cars had one in the manifold (I think 92/93) and later in the downpipe.
I know the manifold ones are really expensive from Subaru, so maybe someone fitted one in the downpipe and left the old one in to blank the hole.

then maybe, and a real big maybe. Your garage has replaced the dummy one and the real one is still showing the fault.

I thought on the early MYs, the lambda was in the headers, and the sensor in the downpipe was to do with the cat...?
