Unhappy Fuel Pump intermittant priming failure

Currently suffering with this and its a lottery as to when it fails, which is a real pain in the a*$e!!.

When the car fails to start there is no 'priming' noise from trhe boot area & no fuel is pumped to the engine bay when the key is turned. Car turns over with key but will not fire. No CEL warnings, tank full of fuel etc...

Can any tell me (in idiot speak) how to check for a bad earth to the fuel pump? I have replaced the pump and still get the same problem. The car is an MY94 WRX STi and has been bullet proof until now. Also any other suggestions as to cause / problem wiould be great as I need to get it sorted today if poss !!!!! After the last failure (last week!!) I re-made the connection to the pump and hey-presto prob solved, yet it has now happened again.

Thanks
