Question Engine Monitoring - What's required?

What are the basic requirements for engine monitoring? I run a UK Sti8. I'm not overly harsh with it on the publics road. Minor indiscretions like most folk, but I intend to do trackdays as often as possible.

Reading through some of the post on here puts the frightners on you, talking about engine failures and folk who notice small changes and catch them early on before anything big happens.

I'm guessing, oil temp and pressure, possible knocklink. SECS monitor?

whats your thoughts? Any links to particular wesites? All I have at present is the Subaru steering column mount boost gauge. Which isn't all that good.

Thanks...John

The ones that come on the car are the basic requirements.

Don't get too paranoid. Don't forget that for everyone who posts here about the problems they're having, there'll be 10, 50, maybe hundreds of happy owners.

Information certainly is your friend. The more you know, the more warning you'll get of impending badness, and the easier your mind will be when you're giving it some on the track.

The SECS monitor is a replacement for some analog gauges, but not all of them. My ideal setup would be a good standalone boost gauge, a KnockLink, an AFR meter and a SECS type multifunction device to monitor/display the rest.

Still trying to educate the masses on the Impreza naming conventions GM?

John, you've got a nice 3yr warranty so don't lose any sleep over things

Gauges might scare the bejesus out of you, especially tearing around Knockhill. Although some more distractions may have you ploughing more fields
