I'd hazard a guess YES
Should be attached to the airbox

Dont think your engine would run with out, as it measures the airflow into the engine, which in turn, affects the amount of fuel going in also. it should be located on the left of the engine bay as you look at it near the wing. its in the pipe between the big airbox (if you have one) and intercooler , if not, between the induction cone and intercooler. it is immediately after the box or cone, which is visable by a shiney surfaced, square looking housing unit. there should be a 5 pinned plug going into it (the MAF sensor). hope thats of any sense to you.

The only circumstances under which your engine will run properly without a MAF sensor would be if you were running a MAP based aftermarket ECU (GEMS/Link/MoTeC etc.).

The engine will start and run without a MAF sensor connected on the standard JECS/Denso ECU's but the check engine light will be on, and it'll be in "limp home" (i.e. no boost) mode.
