Question turbo hose residue

Having just taken off the intercooler on my MY99 i notice there's a sticky oil/almost tar-like residue on the inside of the short fat pipe that connects the intercooler to the intake manifold. They are samco hoses and the car is decatted and has a tek3 map so runs increased boost.
Is this anything to worry about as haven't noticed it before.

Did you fit the Samcos? Was a similar substance there on your old pipes? Have you had a service recently, and if so has your engine oil been over-filled...?

when you fitted the hose, did you coat the inside of them with anything like grease or sealer ? Maybe it has broken down with the heat or fumes ?

Just checked the oil and it's below the low mark!I've still cleaned the boost solenoid however as i'm getting the low speed hesitation (2000-2500rpm).

unless you fit a oil catcher you will always get a deposit from the engine breathers going back into the turbo inlet.

Yes, and just imagine how nasty the intercooler gets, i've cleaned mine out with some petrol, sloshed around for awhile, washed out, let it drain and dry. Noticed the difference.

As fuz says, the engine has a positive crankcase ventilation system, which means that the oily vapours from the sump are sucked out by the intake system, which leave oily residues everywhere. Nice. If it's kind of tar-like as you suggest, and it's only a light coating on the walls, probably don't panic. If it's fresh and there's lots of it investigate further.
