Forester Turbo and ecutek
I want to ecutek my 02 Forester but do I have to remove the cats? I dont want it to sound like my old imprezas as I love the stealth factor of the Forester. I know I wont get the best benefit by leaving the in but what sort of gains do you guys reckon I should get with just a remap.
Cheers
P.S. its a european model not JDM so only 177bhp at the mo.

Merv has a map for an s-turbo that was 220ish as I recall. You'll loose spool up with the downpipe cat still in.
How about dropping a td04 in before you get it mapped ? They are ten a penny in "for sale"

Gavin,
Did they mean a UK or JDM?
Cos they aren't going to get 90 ponies from a remap as steve said not with that little turbo

So the tdo4 seems to be the way to go. I have a source for one and will get it next month. One quick question, in all the magazines I have found it says that the 0to60 and 0 to 100 times are 7.9 and 25.9 or thereabouts. Why is it then that I can do 6.5 and 18.0 in a completely standard car except for a dawes device. I know the stopwatch in the car is a very crude way of timing this type of thing and it is not very accurate but to shave nearly 8 seconds off the standard 0 to 100mph time just with a Dawes seems very unlikely. The car is not a JDM model so its supposed to have 177bhp but it has always felt quicker than my 02WRX. The car used to be owned by Subaru Ireland and I have asked has it been modded and have been told its bog standard. Its going on the rolling road in 3 weeks time so I will soon find out if it has standard 177bhp. Has anyone else timed their standard cars and found that there was a big difference?
Thanks

Alan,
Try timing 0-70 and 0-110 as the speedo will be out. These times would be more telling.
There was a PPP for the Forester. I don't know what the package was but would probably be the ECU (lift carpet in passenger footwell and take off metal cover. Note code on label), rear exhaust (stainless steel and noisy) and turbo to intercooler silicon hose (red or blue?).
Perhaps a picture of the engine bay may be more revealling if you can do one?

Have a TD04 on the way thanks to Butty, and will be fitting downpipe and centre section and possibly back box soon so extra horses on the way. As I said on my previous post I find this car a lot faster than it should be, this was proven when a mate (who drives a T5 with 300bhp or thereabouts) and myself had a little blast from 40mph to well into 3 figures from 3rd gear on and he could not make any ground on me. In my old wrx he would have destroyed me. Don't get me wrong I am not complaining just happy as a pig in shoite with my new toy.

Had the car on the rollers today and got some strange results.
185bhp and 258 Nm torque but my boost was between 0.4 and 0.6 of a bar. The mechanic reckoned that mty Dawes was fitted incorrectly. I was in the car when it was set up and it was set to run a just slightly over 1.0 bar. How do these figures sound when running at this type of boost.
Cheers

Absolutely, Subaru Ireland used to own it and they gave it to Andrew Nesbitt and James O Brien (Subaru rally team) to use as a reccee(sp) car and I have spoken to the dealers and they swear blind it is bog standard with no mods and its definately not a JDM.
I will take the carpets out tomorrow and take some photos of the ecu and then maybe someone will shed some light on the fact that it is so bleedin quick. I would have thought if it had been ppp'ed that the bhp figures would be higher? I dunno maybe I just got a mid week car and not a monday morning one.
