Angry Whistling engine

I had a new clutch fitted on my uk my99 nearly 2 weeks ago by a well-respected subaru independent specialist (who shall remain nameless for now until I find out what's wrong...)

Immediately after the change I noticed a loud whistle on WOT above about 3200rpm. I took it straight back and (to cut a long story short) they couldn't find the problem (although they accepted there was a problem). I was late by then so I told them to reassemble the engine and I'd have a look for it- they're 200 miles from me. Except I can't find what's wrong for love nor money. It sounds like it ought to be an air leak but I've checked all the pipes very throughly and can't find anything wrong (I've pressure tested them too). I'm told a different IC has been tried. I've changed an exhaust gasket which was disturbed in the clutch change. It makes full boost pressure and (subjectively) full power. KL shows 1-2 greens max.

While they were at it they changed the flywheel and the crankshaft rear oil seal.

Any ideas on where to look next will be very gratefully received as I really don't know where to look now and am starting to get alarmed (read "worried it's about to get expensive"). I think I've tried everything obvious so I'm starting to clutch at straws a bit.

Oh and the rocker cover gasket's just started leaking too...

Cool

I personally, would now consider taking the intercooler off, checking all the "boost" pipework, then refitting from scratch. As even a jubilee clip not placed squarely on a pipe can cause an air pressure escape.
Incidentally, did they remove the engine to fit the clutch? or did they do it the easier way and simply remove gearbox? as I find cars which have had the engine removed to change clutch have too many things disturbed for my liking,as you dont even have to remove the exhaust downpipe, simply the centre section thatway.

Thanks Scoobyslut but....

I've already had the IC off and forced air into it to check for leaks, I waswondering along the lines of a failing dump valve (although that should be eliminated with an IC change) or maybe there's a small component or pipe that I haven't found yet that someone might know about??!! (I am clutching well and truly to many straws).

They took the box off to do it, I'm beginning to wonder if the turbo itself has been damaged as I can't find anything else

Recently had a whistler & found the following:

1 Std Brake servo pipe had been replaced by Samco (minus 1 way valve) this pressurised brake cylinde & hissed (HOSE REPLACED WITH STD)

2 Air Intake Manifold to turbo had perished & was drawing in air (HOSE REPLACED)

3 Still made whistle noise took turbo off & crack in turbo housing wastegate at 11 o Clock all the way through (TURBO REPLACED)

4 Its now all OK

Thanks for the replies guys. Xtreme, will check for cracks to the turbo housing... The exhaust heatshield adjacent to the turbo came adrift last week, so I suppose it would be possible that whatever caused that to break (sudden cooling???) could do the same to the turbo housing.

Xtreme

Could you give more of a description of the cracked housing please? Was it big enough to leak exhaust gas (ie was the area around it blackened?)

TIA

Have got the same noise on my RB5 it actually turned out to be the exhaust heatsheild rattling although sounds more like a whistle on hard exceleration, apparently a common fault according to the main dealer!
